City information
Welcome to London! The capital of the United Kingdom. The city has many monuments for which London is known, such as Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, St. Pauls Cathedral and Buckingham Palace. Do you like shopping? Then London is the place to be! Visit the famous Oxford street or go to the Harrods department store! London was founded in AD 43 by the Romans under the name Londinium. The city remained quite small for a long time but flourished through trade. The Vikings and Anglo-Saxons in particular became very interested in the city because of this. However, the king of Wessex captured the city and made it his center of power. In the Middle Ages, the city grew bigger and bigger. Within 100 years, no fewer than 126 new churches and 13 new monasteries were added. Unfortunately, the plague broke out which halved the population. In addition, many houses of wood were built at that time. In 1666 a huge fire broke out that burned London to the ground within 4 days. After this fire, reconstruction began and London has been completely restored. Are you ready to explore the city with me?
