And of course, I'll show you the best spots for photos!Before we begin, a little history in brief…The Hague originated 5,800 years ago as a farming settlement. However, 's-Gravenhage , as the city is formally known, only truly began to grow under Count William II (1228-1256), who commissioned the construction of a count's castle around the Binnenhof Inner Court). North of the Hofvijver (Court Pond), where the soil is predominantly sandy, nobles and notables built their houses and palaces. Craftsmen and merchants settled on the peatlands south of the Binnenhof complex.The Hague has undergone significant development over the years and boasts a rich history. For example, Louis Napoleon, who became King of Holland in 1806, visited the city, developed into the seat of government of the Netherlands, and counts, stadtholders, kings, and queens chose the city as their residence.Our starting point is right in the center at the statue of Johan de Witt .
